The Power of Your Mind Transforms Your Internal Universe
“Hypnosis” derives from the Ancient Greek word hypnos meaning “sleep”. For thousands of years, going as far back to the ancient times hypnosis has been used to elevate one’s health, relieve and control pain. During the Civil War, Army doctors hypnotised wounded soldiers before severe procedure including amputations. Recent studies have verified its effectiveness and efficacy as a pain-relieving tool.
As you read more of my blogs will begin to understand much deeper about the power of hypnotherapy, understanding the intricacies why hypnotherapy works so well, requires a little insight into what happens in the brain when undergoing hypnosis. Hypnosis can be specifically linked to your brain’s cognitive processing being described as “a phenomenon involving attentive receptive concentration.” Essentially, hypnosis plays a vital role in controlling selective attention.
Regulating Conscious Awareness
Hypnosis is thought of and defined as a type of regulating conscious awareness, as the “mental representations” have the ability to override behaviour, physiology and perception. There are two basic elements within hypnosis: induction and suggestion. As the state of hypnosis is induced, you’ll experience a receptiveness to adjustments in physiology, awareness and elevation of heightened: feelings, emotions, ideas, or behaviours that assist in resolving issues. This has been defined as ‘hypnotic suggestibility.’ This hypnotic suggestibility is utilised by hypnotherapists and speciality hypnotherapists such as myself to alter different kinds of perception.
During the “suggestion” phase, with my guidance I am able to take you through hypothetical events and situations, these processes are designed in assisting you, confront or counteract problematic habits and emotions. The suggestions offered are tailored specifically to your requirements and your unique set of challenges.
Enhancing Mind/Body Control
Now we can go straight into WHY hypnotherapy works. In some respects, hypnosis is sometimes seen as a guided form of mindfulness. Here typical judgements and sensory responses are put to the side to attain a deeper level of attention, awareness, responsive and receptiveness. This state of being in the moment is likening the hypnotic state to immersing oneself in a deep meaningful thought, a book or movie, you shift your awareness away from the world around you, your mind becomes entirely immersed in another reality, what you are reading or watching. By moving into focused attention this is the reason why it works; you naturally move into a peaceful oneness state, the ego is set aside, allowing your intuition to take hold.
As you enter this state, suggestion then induces a state of agnosia, at this state the brain can perceive but cannot recognise various external stimuli. Suggestion is powerful as it also affects visuospatial processing, this means the brain’s capacity to distinguish objects in space, recognise patterns, forms, outlines, and shapes. This may all seem unnecessary to know, what this is simply referring to is hypnotherapy’s unique ability where your brain processes scenarios without physically being in it ‒ something akin to a dream state.
Some people without experiencing the hypnotic state imagine hypnosis as a loss of control, it is a method of enhancing mind/body control. Rather than letting fear, anxiety, anger pain, or other undesirable states of mind take over, hypnosis empowers you to take back your power, gain more control over your life, actions, expressions, thoughts and perceptions. It’s during these states as you are in your sessions that your brain becomes rewired, the ability to overcome old patterns of thinking, liberating yourself from the past.
Here at these levels, you build coping strategies, these will be unique to you, they are specifically designed to help you achieve your success by overcoming challenges such as shame, depression, anxiety, procrastination, phobias, anger and addictions. Hypnotherapy has the power to also help you overcome being stuck in the past, shock, trauma, PTSD, emotional and physical pain or trauma including challenges faced in your interpersonal relationships.
Practical Experience Without Physical Presence
The advantage of this process it gives your brain the insight, awareness, recall, practical experience of dealing with certain challenging situations or emotions; the beauty is without having to physically reexperience and going through them. As with memory recall, It triggers all of your body and brain’s normal responses, retraining them so that when you are faced with life’s complex set of challenges, you’ll already have the insight and the power to manage them in ways that lead to better outcomes.
The benefits from this breakthrough gifts you with long-term application strengthening you from the inside out, inside is where the imprinting all started. As time passes there is evidence of how this process promotes healthier behavioural and thought patterns, the results are very rewarding as you experience effects of long-term and sustainable change that becomes permanent as opposed to quick fixes.
Throughout the ages backed by centuries of practical application, accompanied by a growing body of theoretical and practical scientific evidence, has affirmed and proven why hypnotherapy is so powerful and why it works. Now that you have insight and theoretical understanding of it, all that is left to do is to begin the journey into practical application.
